Let’s explore these questions so that you can choose the tool that is right for your kitchen.

How does a chamber vacuum sealer work?

Chamber vacuum sealers may work differently than standard vacuum sealers, but they’re no more complicated.

So, how do you use a chamber vacuum sealer?

Step 1: Load the bag.

One of the best parts about chamber vacuum sealers is that you can store many different types of food using this technology.

Due to the way the sealer operates, the bag does not deflate. 

So, you can store soups and more structurally sensitive foods that you could not have stored using a standard vacuum sealer.

To properly load a bag for the chamber vacuum sealer, first fold down the top of the bag. 

This will protect it from contamination and allow you to get a tight seal.

Folding back the bag also makes the loading process cleaner and easier.

Then, load your food into the bag, and fold the top back to its original place.

Step 2: Load the chamber.

Slide the bag into the vacuum chamber, and arrange the open end of the bag over the sealing bar. Then, tuck it back into the chamber.

Make sure that the entire bag is inside the chamber. 

If you’re using a large bag relative to the size of your chamber, this is especially important.

Step 3: Begin the sealing cycle.

Once you’re confident that the bag is inside, close the lid and press the button to begin the sealing cycle.

Note: If the bag is not entirely inside the chamber, it will swell during this step. 

In extreme cases, it will burst. So, you need to be 100% sure that the bag is entirely inside the vacuum chamber.

During the sealing cycle, the chamber vacuum sealer removes air from the chamber. 

Pressure will drop until it reaches 5 millibars, removing 99.5% of the air.

If you see the bag slightly puff, don’t worry. 

At the beginning of the cycle, the pressure difference sometimes causes this to happen. 

Step 4: Heat seal the bag.

After the chamber pressure reaches 5 millibars, the unit will heat seal the bag. 

This generally takes only 2-3 seconds.

The longer you apply the heat, the more plastic will melt. 

While you want a good seal, you do not want to completely destroy the plastic. 

So, adjust the time as you see fit after a couple of attempts.

If your bag slipped of hte vacuum sealer bar at any point during this process, it will not seal.

So, make sure that the bag is tightly wrapped around the bar in order to get a good seal.

Once the bag is heat sealed, the process is complete.

Step 5: End the cycle.

After the bag is sealed, air can no longer enter. 

So, a valve automatically opens to refill the entire chamber with air, alleviating the pressure difference between the chamber and the outside environment.

How are chamber vacuum sealers and standard vacuum sealers different?

If you’re already familiar with standard vacuum sealers, you know that they operate by sucking, or vacuuming, the air out of a bag. 

When the air is removed, your food is much more protected from the ill effects of oxygen than it would be otherwise.

However, a chamber vacuum sealer does not vacuum the air out of the bag. 

Instead, it pumps all of the air, including the air that is inside of the bag, out of the chamber simultaneously.

Because all of the air is removed, the effect is the same, and your food is still very well protected.

Chamber vacuum sealers give a very tight seal, albeit through a different method.

What’s the downside to chamber vacuum sealers?

If you’re going for a quality seal and well-protected food, chamber vacuum sealers are at the top end of the market.

But, they are more expensive than standard vacuum sealers. And, they run slower than typical units.

Chamber vacuum sealers usually come with more bells and whistles than their standard counterparts. 

If you enjoy a high level of customization and want an exceptionally accurate calibration, chamber vacuum sealers may be your answer.

In the long run, chamber vacuum sealers can be a very good investment if you use them to reduce your food wastes. 

With the extra money saved from throwing food away, a chamber vacuum sealer can pay for itself.

Another major difference is that you can seal multiple bags of food at once when using a chamber vacuum sealer.

Therefore, chamber vacuum sealers also give you the ability to store a larger scale of food. 

While standard vacuum sealers are limited on the quantity of food that they can store, this is not the case with chamber vacuum sealers.

Chamber vacuum sealers can easily store all of the solid and liquid food that you want to keep long-term.

You can buy chamber vacuum sealers that are large enough to store food for commercial kitchens! 

So, if you’re serious about storing food, a chamber vacuum sealer is a must-have item.

However, if you do not properly use it, you will have an expensive kitchen appliance without a reward.

With a little extra financial investment and patience with the process, your food will be safe for months and years to come.
